Writing...
ain't easy
My memoir is all uphill now, so I avoid it. I’m familiar with this place, this steep, barren slope that presents no firm footholds. I’ve been here before. I write other things, like this note, wait it out. Occasionally, I open a memoir file, fix a few of its sentences. Sentences always need fixing. I could do that all day. I have a memoir group deadline coming up. That usually gets me to crawl to the hill crest, get a glimpse of what lies ahead, start writing again.
I have nothing else for you today. Except this excellent quote from the excellent Heather Cox Richardson, posted March 15, 2026
“The Framers of the U.S. Constitution understood that a free press is imperative for a democracy. They established the right to a free press in the First Amendment that begins the Bill of Rights. Silencing critics is the refuge of those who know what they are doing is unpopular and unjustifiable.”

I should admit that deadlines are sterling motivators and I have now written pretty near the 5,000 words I'm supposed to turn in to the group by Sunday.
